CICan announces 2015 Art Showcase Winners

Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) has announced the winners of its 2015 Art Showcase! This was the second edition of the art competition, which called for colleges and institute students from across the country to submit their artwork. This year, the CICan art committee received over 100 submissions from across Canada. After much deliberation, the committee awarded three national prizes, six regional prizes, two honourable mentions, and one President’s Choice Prize selected by CICan President and CEO Denise Amyot. To see the full list of winners, see CICan’s news release. The artwork submitted by these college and institute students will be on display at the CICan headquarters at the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. Their pieces can also be found on the virtual winners’ gallery here. CICan would like to thank everyone who submitted an art piece. Stay tuned for next year’s Art Showcase!

Did you know?

Four Cegep de Matane students have won best student film at the Montreal International Animation Film Festival! Jonathan Grondin, Marie-Eve Belanger, Cedric Queland and William Blanchette-Mailloux created the winning short film Edgar, which tells the story of a lonely bartender. Congratulations to all four of you! Click here to watch Edgar.
Last week started off with a bang, as I took part in a CICan online webinar on Monday with Michèle Clarke, CICan’s director of member engagement. The webinar’s topic was “National Trends in the College System” and it was a great opportunity to connect with members for a stimulating discussion. On Tuesday, I hopped on a flight to Toronto in the early morning for a full day of meetings. I headed to the University of Toronto, where I participated in a series of panels at the Centre for Creative Leadership (CCL). It was great to hear about student experiences with the CCL program, and to participate in a panel of sectorial leaders with college presidents! On Wednesday I returned to Ottawa, and participated in the French version of our CICan webinar. I also had the wonderful opportunity of attending a state luncheon in honour of the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, his Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein. It is always a great honour to visit Rideau Hall for state visits. This was also a great opportunity to discuss potential partnerships with members of his delegation. Stay tuned for possible new opportunities in Jordan. I also attended a Macdonald-Laurier institute debate at the Canadian War Museum about universities, and whether or not enrolment is too high. It was a full house, and the debate was eye opening and very interesting to watch! On Thursday, I had the pleasure of attending a Famous Five Ottawa luncheon honouring Premier Kathleen Wynne as a nation builder. I attended the event with Sylvie Lemaire, who job shadowed me for two days, and Mireille Sylvester, who works in CICan’s communications shop. It was a great opportunity to hear Kathleen Wynne speak about women in leadership and in politics, and to meet other women from Ottawa who are great leaders!
