Canada is well-known for its world-class post-secondary institutions, but global competition is increasing. To counteract labour shortages and strengthen our economy, we must deepen our global engagement and increase our efforts to remain accessible and supportive to newcomers and international students. At the same time, many countries need Canada’s support and expertise to strengthen and adapt their own post-secondary sectors.
Colleges and institutes are championing education, training and innovation on a global scale. We represent the fastest-growing level of study for international students in Canada and account for just over half of all study permit holders at the post-secondary level, bringing greater diversity and economic growth to communities across Canada. Over the past 50 years, we’ve also been involved in over 800 projects in more than 100 countries. These projects focus on building capacity and expertise within international education systems and reducing poverty and inequality for disadvantaged populations.
