The Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training Program (KBEST) is a seven-year program to support the Government of Kenya on building skills in the Kenyan workforce in order to establish the country as a competitive presence in the global blue economy.
Implemented by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) and in collaboration with Kenya’s Ministry of Education, KBEST will enhance the capacity of Kenyan technical and vocational training (TVET) institutions and agencies to deliver skills training programs that meet international standards and respond to the needs of the industry.
Using CICan’s flagship partnership model, KBEST will:
- Work with four hub institutes and 20 county-level vocational training centres (VTCs) and Technical Training Institutes (TTIs) to deliver training to students.
- Engage the private sector to identify skills gaps, develop occupational standards and curricula, improve training facilities, and provide internships and attachments.
- Engage women’s organizations and other civil society organizations in outreach and advocacy, such as the Nairobi-based Equity Group Foundation, to provide scholarships and other student support for girls and women.
KBEST will generate employment and economic growth—particularly for youth and women—while preserving the health of oceans and water systems for future generations of Kenyans.
The Kenya Blue Economy Skills Training Program (KBEST) is a seven-year, $25 million project funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada.
