Memorandum of Understanding Signed in Brazil
ACCC and Brazil’s National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) have agreed to develop and strengthen their collaboration in technological cooperation, including in applied research. During a recent trip to Brazil, ACCC President and CEO, Denise Amyot, and CNPq President, Glaucius Oliva, signed a Memorandum of Understanding recognizing the importance of supporting applied scientific and technological cooperation between Brazil and Canada. ACCC and CNPq will work to develop projects or activities that support a capacity building program for Brazilian students or professionals in ACCC member Institutions; exchanges of researchers to promote or consult on applied research; and capacity building and training within applied R&D for joint projects. The agreement also promotes development of technological seminars, workshops and symposia; as well as information exchanges of joint applied R&D policies and strategies.
Congratulations to Ann Everatt, who has been selected as the new President of Northern Lakes College, effective June 19, 2013. Ms. Everatt has held various positions at Lambton College, Keyano College, Northern College, Fanshawe College and (Nunavut) Arctic College. She has a Bachelor of Arts (Adult Education) from Concordia University and a Master of Arts in Leadership and Training from Royal Roads University.
Congratulations to Claude Montigny on his appointment to the position of Director General of Cégep de Baie-Comeau, effective July 2, 2013. Mr. Montigny is a Baie-Comeau native, and is well-known for his commitment to his city and the Côte-Nord region. He has several years experience in administrative positions in the health and social services sector, including seven years as Director General of the Centre de protection et de réadaptation de la Côte-Nord. Mr. Montigny studied Finance in college, and holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Administration.
Congratulations to David Walls, who has been named to the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of College of the Rockies, effective August 19, 2013. Walls most recently served as Provost and Vice-President Academic at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology (SIAST) where he also held the positions of Associate Vice-President Academic and Student Affairs, and Dean of Industrial Training. Walls succeeds Dr. Nick Rubidge, who is retiring after twelve years as President and with 40 years’ experience in BC’s post-secondary education sector.
Congratulations to Hervé Pilon, on his appointment to the position of Director General of Collège Montmorency, effective August 21, 2013. His many years of experience within the college system will serve him well, in particular the last eight years as Director General of Cégep André-Laurendeau. Mr. Pilon is the successor to Denyse Blanchet, who is retiring after a 39-year career in education.
Congratulations to Dr. Salvador Ferreras, who has been appointed to the position of Provost and Vice President, Academic, at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, effective September 3, 2013. Dr. Ferreras was the Vice President, Education and Student Services at Vancouver Community College (VCC) and was an instructor at number of Canadian institutions. He holds a master’s degree and PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of British Columbia and a bachelor’s degree of music in performance from the University of Windsor.
Congratulations to Sukhjit Singh, a graduate of ACCC’s Canadian Immigrant Integration Program, who won one of this year’s RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards, an annual people’s choice awards campaign that celebrates Canadian immigrants. Sukhjit received the honour owing to his work at the Peel Multicultural Council in Mississauga and his extensive volunteering in the community. Sukhjit is the second CIIP graduate to win such an award, as Gautam Nath, another India graduate, won in 2011.
