Ottawa, June 20, 2022 – This year, CICan is pleased to announce two recipients of the Colleges and Institutes Canada Distinguished Service Award, MaryLynn West-Moynes, CEO and President of Georgian College of Applied Arts and Technology, and Kathy Kinloch, President of the British Columbia Institute of Technology. This award recognizes the exceptional leadership qualities both candidates have shown and the contributions they have made in their respective institutions and their communities.
With extensive experience serving in leadership roles at various colleges and universities, MaryLynn West-Moynes has helped build up and strengthen Ontario’s postsecondary system over her 37-year career. Through the partnerships and programs she was able to develop, in collaboration with her community, she made sure that the college system was always attentive to the needs of both students and employers. Her efforts have paved a path for students to obtain valuable skills that lead to successful careers. She is also known for consistently sharing her knowledge with others through various contributions to events, committees, and CICan activities.
Kathy Kinloch is a well-respected and transformational leader that many look up to. As the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s first female president, she has become a strong and inspirational female role model with a passion for authentic leadership and creative change. She was also able to build strong partnerships and connections with business, industry, and the greater community of BCIT. Throughout her career, she has made many contributions to major provincial and national initiatives involving industry and higher education. She has already been recognized with seven provincial awards of excellence for public sector leadership, a Top 50 Most Influential Women in BC award, and Woman of Distinction award from the YMCA.
“CICan’s Distingushed Service award has usually been awarded to only one recipient in honour of their service and contribution to the college and institute system nationally. The fact that we have two recipients who are both equally worthy of praise is a testament to the exceptional leadership qualities and contributions that the leaders of our member institutions continue to embody,” notes Denise Amyot, President and CEO of CICan. “This year’s Distinguished Service Award serves as an important reflection of who we are and how far we have come as a community of educators.”
