The Improving Skills Training for Employment Program (ISTEP) is a six-year program that strengthens skills development in Tanzania. ISTEP is helping technical and vocational training institutions deliver skills training that will allow students to find or create employment in the tourism and extractive sectors.
The Tanzania Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST), lead regulatory bodies: the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) and the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) and employer associations have partnered with CICan to implement this six-year subsidiary of the successful Education for Employment (EFE) programs.
Expanding Education for Employment
Drawing on CICan’s expertise and experience in skills education, ISTEP is connecting Canadian institutions with Tanzanian technical and vocational institutions to develop demand-driven, competency-based programs. Students are gaining the skills needed to work with large-scale extractive or tourism operations or as entrepreneurs who can create small or medium-sized businesses that benefit them personally as well as the local economy. The partnerships forged between Canadian and Tanzanian training institutions also support leadership and management development and teacher training, which strengthen the capacity of the institutions to respond to the needs of students, industry and communities.
This Education for Employment (EFE) program will help Tanzanian technical and vocational training institutions build the capacity to deliver effective skills training programs and support economic opportunities across the mining, oil & gas and tourism sectors.
