CICan congratulates all new and returning MPs

Ottawa, September 21, 2021 – Denise Amyot, President and CEO of Colleges and Institutes Canada issued the following statement on Canada’s  44th federal election.

“On behalf of colleges and institutes across Canada, I would like to thank all the candidates who took part in this election and offer my sincere congratulations to our 338 new and returning members of Parliament.”

“This new Parliament will be tasked with guiding our country through a critical moment as we recover from one of the most important crises in generations. Rebuilding our economy, helping displaced workers get back to work, progressing towards a greener, more sustainable economy, as well as reconciliation with Indigenous peoples are all significant challenges that will require meaningful collaboration across Canada.”

“Colleges and institutes stand ready to support MPS of all stripes and their communities as we work towards these critical goals. With over 95% of Canadians living within 50km of a member institution, ours is the largest network of post-secondary establishments in the country. Every day, our members train Canadians with the skills they need to succeed and contribute fully to a prosperous, and innovative Canada, thanks to a wide variety of programs that reflect the needs of both students and employers. They also play a critical role in Canada’s innovation ecosystem, participating in over 8000 research partnerships in 2019-2020 alone, most of them with SMEs looking to develop new products or processes.”

“Regardless of party lines and platforms, Canadians know that providing quality, accessible education is at the heart of Canada’s success and prosperity. This is especially important at a moment like this, where the labour market remains in turmoil and we are all called upon to innovate.”
