CICan celebrates student creativity with its 2019 Art Showcase

Ottawa, May 14, 2019 – Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) is thrilled to announce the winners of its 2019 Art Showcase competition.

The association received nearly 180 submissions from students across the country in this year’s competition. The winners were selected by participants at CICan’s Annual Conference, in Niagara Falls. Delegates were invited to vote for their favorite piece in each of the following categories: textile, mixed media, or sculpture; photography; digital Illustration or animation; painting; and drawing.

“We are incredibly grateful to our members and their students for all the submissions we received”, said CICan president and CEO, Denise Amyot. “I am always dazzled by the creativity and talent on display in our annual Art Showcase, and once again, our students delivered some unique and breathtaking works of art.”

The 2019 CICan Art Showcase winners are:

  • Digital Illustration & Animation: “I am the person I know best,” by Miranda Stobbe, Assiniboine Community College.
  • Drawing: “Isaiah,” by Rylee McGee, Fanshawe College.
  • Painting: “Navagio,” by Morgan Dease, Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
  • Photography: “Dark Side,” by Alexis Burton, Mohawk College.
  • Textile, mixed media, or sculpture: “Somewhere under the Birch Tree,” by F Mehtap Mertdogan, Centennial College.

The winner in each category will receive a cash prize of $350 and have their work displayed on the walls of CICan’s office, located inside the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. The winning pieces are also displayed on the CICan website.
