Climate Change in Canadian Rural and Remote Communities

This 28-hour online course on Climate Change in Canadian Rural and Remote Communities addresses sustainability needs specific to smaller community settings. Learners will discover the adverse effects that climate change has on rural livelihoods and the different adaptation strategies to support rural resilience. They will explore the various mitigation measures, adaptation, and resilience strategies that national and international countries are implementing to support rural communities impacted by climate change. Lastly, learners will also explore some of the policies and governance currently supporting rural climate action nationally and internationally.

The course has the following learning outcomes and is available in both English and French:

  1. Reflect on the impacts of climate change on Canada and the different strategies being implemented to adapt and build climate resiliency
  2. Analyze the vulnerabilities that Indigenous and rural communities experience due to climate change and the strategies to address these concerns
  3. Describe the impacts of climate change on rural and remote livelihoods and the strategies to support climate and community resiliency
  4. Examine adaptation strategies for rural resilience, taking into consideration the importance of assessing vulnerability and risks in rural contexts
  5. Explain mitigation measures being implemented nationally and internationally to support climate change in rural and remote communities
  6. Reflect on national and international policies and governance that are available to support climate change in rural and remote communities
