Guidelines & Application

The CICan Bird Construction/Paul and Gerri Charette Bursary provides financial support to college and institute Indigenous students that demonstrate financial need and face challenges or barriers to participating in and completing post-secondary education. This includes 4 bursaries of $2,500 each. Indigenous students may also apply for the Paul and Gerri Charette Bursary.

Guidelines

Deadline

Institutions must submit an application on behalf of their student by Friday, October 28, 2022.

Nomination

Each nomination should include the following:

  • Endorsement Letter: The endorsement letter must be included and signed by the President or Director General of the institution.
  • Financial Need: Evidence-based demonstration of financial needs.
  • Challenges or barriers: Demonstrate how the bursary will help eliminate challenges or barriers to participating in, and completing, education.
  • Short essay: A short essay (max 10 000 characters) by the student describing the impact that the bursary will have on their ability to attend a college or institute and their involvement in the community.
  • Supporting Testimonials: Up to three (3) supporting documents may be uploaded. More than one testimonial may be included on the same page.

Eligibility

The student meets all of the following criteria:

  • The student is enrolled full time in a multi-year program at a CICan member institution.
  • The student must identify as an Indigenous person. Note: this bursary is not open to international students.
  • The student demonstrates financial need.

Acknowledgment

Upon receipt of the completed nomination, an acknowledgment email will be sent to the contact person.

Final Results

The results will be sent to the President or Director General of each nominating institution.

Selection Committee

Each nomination is reviewed by an independent selection committee with representation from across CICan member institutions. Peer reviewers participate on a voluntary basis and every nomination is reviewed independently from one another. A nomination will not be reviewed by someone from the same institution as the nominee.
