Arequipa, May 30, 2018 – A press conference organized by the Regional Ministry of Education in Arequipa, in collaboration with the Canadian Cooperation, marked the local launch of the institutional alliances for the “Sustainable Development and Skills for Employment in the Extractive Sector of the Pacific Alliance” Program that will help improve the quality and diversity of training offered at Instituto Superior de Educación Pública Honorio Delgado Espinoza (ISEP-HDE), in Arequipa, Peru.
More specifically, the Maintenance of Heavy Machinery and Metallurgy training programs at ISEP-HDE will benefit from a 3-year institutional alliance with a consortium of Canadian colleges and institutes (College of New Caledonia, Nova Scotia Community College and British Columbia Institute of Technology). These Canadian partners will provide technical assistance and training to directors, instructors and administrative staff, based on a competency-based education and training model. The program will also promote gender equality and environmental sustainability approaches, and provide technical assistance for the acquirement of equipment and the development of services to businesses.
This initiative is part of a 5-year (2016-2021) regional program with the four-member countries of the Pacific Alliance (Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru) that is financed by the Government of Canada (Global Affairs Canada) through a contribution of $16 million CAD and is executed by Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan).
The overall aim of the Pacific Alliance (PA) Education for Employment (EFE) Program is to increase socio-economic opportunities for women and men in a sustainable and inclusive extractive sector in the PA countries. The program has two main components. The first concerns the establishment of institutional partnerships between CICan member colleges and technical institutions in the four PA countries.
The second pillar is aimed at supporting the governance of the extractive sector by strengthening the dialogue between private and public sector, and civil society stakeholders in the countries of the PA and Canada around sustainable and inclusive policies and best practices related to the extractive sector.
