CICan Elects New Chair and Vice-Chair to its Board of Directors

Ottawa, September 18, 2024 —  CICan is pleased to announce the election of Dr. Pierre Zundel as Chair and Carolyn Campbell as Vice-Chair of its Board of Directors, effective September 11, 2024.

These new appointments reinforce CICan’s commitment to advance its refreshed mission and strategic impact goals, outlined in its Roadmap to 2026

Dr. Pierre Zundel, President and CEO of Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick, brings a deep understanding of bilingual and tri-cultural institutions (English, French and Indigenous), having held senior leadership positions at Laurentian University and the University of Sudbury. His academic and leadership experience will be critical to CICan’s mandate to support its members and chart a course for new strategic directions for 2026 and beyond.

Dr. Zundel will succeed Peter Devlin, President of Fanshawe College, who has successfully completed his 2-year mandate as Chair. We extend our deepest gratitude to Peter for his exceptional service and people-centred leadership throughout his tenure.

“I am delighted to contribute to CICan’s mission to strengthen the Canadian college and institute system in addressing urgent challenges by aligning educational outcomes with labour market needs and advancing applied research,” says Dr. Zundel. “This commitment underscores the sector’s vital role in building better futures for individuals and communities.”

Carolyn Campbell, President and CEO of NorQuest College, offers a diverse background with leadership roles in education, public service, and the arts. Her extensive experience, including over 25 board and committee roles and ongoing doctoral studies in board governance at the University of Oxford, will be invaluable to advancing CICan’s strategic initiatives.

“I am so pleased to add to CICan’s success in growing the impact and awareness of public colleges, institutes, CEGEPs, and polytechnics across Canada,” says Campbell. “Together, we will build capacity, drive knowledge, and strengthen the publicly supported institutions that benefit all Canadians.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Pierre and Carolyn to their new governance roles,” says Pari Johnston, President and CEO, CICan. “Their extensive postsecondary experience, deep community networks and strategic leadership will be instrumental as CICan continues to position colleges and institutes as key drivers of positive change for Canada – and the world. I also want to personally thank Peter Devlin for being the best Board Chair a new CEO could have.”

The Chair and Vice-Chair appointments are for a two-year term.
