Former Public Sector Deputy Minister / Semi-retired Professional
Nada Semaan was appointed Director and Chief Executive Officer of FINTRAC on March 5, 2018 until her retirement from the public sector in November 2020. Prior to that she held the positions of Associate Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada since October 31, 2016, Executive Vice President of the Canada Border Services Agency (2014–16), and Associate Deputy Minister at Canadian Heritage (2011–14).
From 2008 to 2011, Ms. Semaan was Assistant Secretary, Economic Sector at the Treasury Board Secretariat. Before that, she held various senior level positions including Assistant Deputy Minister, Farm Financial Programs Branch at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Systems at Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, where she also played a key role in the conception, design and implementation of the Service Canada initiative.
Before joining the federal government, Ms. Semaan worked in the technology sector at Cognos Incorporated and in psychiatric research at the Ottawa General Hospital. She is published in the field of psychological research and has received her Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D) designation.
