New digital skills internships connect talent and employers
Ottawa, August 3, 2018 – Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) will help Canadian youth acquire the skills and experience they need to succeed in the digital economy thanks to the brand new Digital Tech Internship program. This new two-year initiative, offered in partnership with the Government of Canada, will allow 440 underemployed recent graduates to connect with local employers and gain hands-on work experience. Canadian colleges and institutes to play a key role in the innovation superclusters
Ottawa, February 15, 2018 – Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) is thrilled to see many of its members from across the country involved in the innovation superclusters announced today by the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development. By sharing their expertise with the many partners involved, they will play an important role in the success of these newly bolstered networks and help propel Canadian innovation to new levels. Canada’s Fundamental Science Review
Colleges and institutes occupy a significant niche in Canada’s research ecosystem, having capitalized on their community connections and modest federal investments in demand-driven, applied research that responds to the distinct innovation needs of local and regional partners, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs). In 2014-15 colleges and institutes worked with over 6000 partners, 86% of them SMEs or micro-enterprises, to improve or develop new products, prototypes, processes and services. Their partnerships include commercialization and knowledge mobilization activities undertaken in collaboration with universities in all research domains.
