Colleges and institutes welcome support for social innovation

Ottawa, June 17, 2016 – Colleges and institutes across Canada will be providing more applied research services to their communities thanks to new grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). The Community and College Social Innovation Fund (CCSIF) supports ground-breaking projects that fuel social innovation by leveraging the talent, resources and expertise available in colleges and institutes across the country. Canadian SMEs benefit from college and institute applied research

Ottawa, May 18, 2016 – Over 5,500 Canadian companies turned to their local college or institute last year to meet their innovation needs, develop new products or improve their services, according to Colleges and Institutes Canada’s (CICan) latest report on applied research. This sends a strong signal to those who will be shaping Canada’s innovation agenda. New infrastructure program invests in innovation and sustainable growth at Canadian post-secondary institutions

April 6, 2016 - The Minister of Science, the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, today announced that the Government of Canada will launch the application process for a $2-billion fund that will improve research and innovation infrastructure at universities and colleges across the country. Colleges and institutes contribute to the research and innovation cycle in Canada through applied research. More specifically, they directly contribute to applied research through enhanced research infrastructure, involvement of faculty and students, and the création of partnerships with the business, industry and social innovation sectors.
