2012-13 Applied Research Survey
We have launched our annual survey of college and institute applied research activity. The data collected demonstrates the growth and impact of college applied research. This annual report is used in our advocacy to position member institutions as key contributors to the Government of Canada’s Science, Technology and Innovation Agenda.
The survey will show how federal investments support college capacity to meet the innovation needs of business, industry and community partners. Regional college associations can request provincial/territorial data to support their advocacy, as Colleges Ontario has done for the 2011-2012 data.
Deadline for Survey submissions is June 17, 2013.
National Executive Leadership Institute
The National Executive Leadership Institute (NELI) for Potential Presidents is planned for July 14-19, 2013 in Parksville, B.C. This intense, week-long residential program is designed for those currently serving as part of the senior management team who wish to explore the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). An agenda led by CEOs from across the country provides an insider’s view of the internal and external contexts and relationships, the Board/CEO dynamic, approaches to leading the senior team, and the changing leadership context. Participants have the opportunity for mentorship from both core faculty and key search consultants. Graduates report that NELI is the best professional development opportunity they have had, whether they pursue a CEO position or choose to be an excellent Vice-President with a deep understanding of their CEO’s context. NELI is offered every two years. Participation is limited, so register soon. For additional information or to register, visit the ACCC website.
Programs and Services for Disadvantaged and Low-skilled Learners
A request has been sent to Vice-Presidents to submit exemplary programs or support services for disadvantaged or low-skilled learners for a publication to be released in Fall 2013.
The information will support advocacy by showcasing the pivotal role of colleges and institutes in skills upgrading for increased access to post-secondary education. The publication is timely given the emphasis of the federal government on improving skills upgrading opportunities announced in Budget 2013, including targeted commitments for people with disabilities, First Nations and Inuit youth, and unemployed youth.
Submissions are due by June 21, 2013. For additional information, please contact Anna Toneguzzo at: firstname.lastname@example.org or 613-746-2222, ext. 3103.
ACCC welcomes members Collège Mérici, Quebec City, QC and SAIT Polytechnic, Calgary, AB.
Congratulations to John Bowman, current President and CEO of College of New Caledonia, on being named President of North Island College (NIC), starting in August. Mr. Bowman will replace Dr. Jan Lindsay, who is retiring after four years with NIC.
