June 6, 2011 — Canada’s colleges and institutes applaud the Government of Canada’s commitment to invest in applied research and education for advanced skills.
“This was a positive budget for Canada’s colleges and institutes,” said James Knight, President and CEO of ACCC. “Colleges are ideal partners to meet applied research needs of small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). They assist in bringing productivity improvements for global prosperity and produce graduates with advanced skills.”
Today’s budget reconfirms welcome new investments in 30 applied research and innovation leaders/industrial chairs at colleges, college and university collaboration on commercialization, support for information and communications technology needs of SMEs, adult basic education in the North and international education marketing.
ACCC represents 150 publicly-funded colleges and institutes with campuses in 1,000 communities. These institutions play a pivotal role in Canada’s economy as providers of highly educated and flexible graduates with advanced skills and as partners with SMEs in applied research and innovation.
