Ottawa, May 30, 2016 – In 2017, Canadians across the country will celebrate 150 years of shared history since the signing of Confederation in 1867. Colleges and institutes Canada (CICan) will take part in the festivities by engaging Canada’s 1.5 million college and institute-based learners in over 3000 communities across the country in a suite of inter-related activities throughout the year.
Colleges and Institutes have always played an essential role in their communities, helping to build a successful and prosperous Canada. With the launch of a new website today during its annual conference, CICan is celebrating the historical contributions of its members across the country.
Starting in January, 2017, each month a contribution to a national anthology will highlight, using member content, the role colleges and institutes have played in making Canada what it is today.
“2017 will be a special year for all Canadians and we are thrilled to take part in the celebrations”, says CICan president and CEO, Denise Amyot. “Colleges and institutes have played an integral role in Canada’s history and it is only fitting that we take this time to reflect on their tremendous contribution.”
To begin the celebration, CICan launched a special website which includes a timeline of its members’ rich history. The site will be updated throughout the year to highlight the achievements of colleges and institutes in areas such as innovation and design.
The site is available at: http://www.collegesinstitutes150.ca/
