CICan and Cégep Garneau host Enabling Entrepreneurship Symposium, March 8-10, 2015

Quebec City, March 5, 2015 – Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) and Cégep Garneau, with the support of the City of Quebec and the Fondation de l’entrepreneurship, are proud to host the Enabling Entrepreneurship Symposium in Quebec City from March 8th to March 10th. This event will bring together leaders from colleges and institutes, economic development  organizations, entrepreneurs, youth leaders, government agencies, foundations, and other key partners making a difference by fostering entrepreneurship.

Over 20 presenters and panelists from the fields of education and entrepreneurship will highlight a variety of institutional initiatives to develop an entrepreneurial culture and provide students with an education that inspires an entrepreneurial mindset.

“Colleges and institutes have a long history of collaborating with industry. Not only do they understand the link between innovation and entrepreneurship, but they also know that in a country where 78% of businesses are small or medium enterprises, it is absolutely essential for post-secondary institutions to help develop an entrepreneurial mindset. This symposium will therefore be an occasion for very stimulating discussion,” observed Denise Amyot, President and CEO of CICan.

Participants will have the opportunity to attend presentations, roundtables, and plenaries featuring exemplary entrepreneurs, partners, youth leaders, support organizations, and institution leaders. The structure of these activities will encourage participants to promote future contributions to Canada’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Entrepreneurship is a global competitive advantage and colleges and institutes are at the heart of the entrepreneurial ecosystem. This is why Cégep Garneau launched Espace Entreprendre, an innovative program promoting entrepreneurship in Quebec City and the surrounding areas, last August. Cégep Garneau has also designed an entrepreneurial program stream, launched the Garneau Travail school-enterprise, established the École d’entrepreneuriat de Québec, and created a business incubator. Cégep Garneau is therefore very well placed to embrace the wave of entrepreneurial ideas emerging from Canada’s post-secondary institutions.

“Every project, every passion, and every dream requires an entrepreneurial decision! Espace Entreprendre is our contribution to reversing the trend and helping Quebec prosper,” affirms Denise Trudeau, president and CEO of Cégep Garneau.
