Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) is the voice of Canada’s publicly supported colleges, institutes, cegeps and polytechnics, and an international leader in education for employment with ongoing programs in over 25 countries. CICan’s members add over $190B to Canada’s economy each year and contribute to inclusive economic growth by working with industry and community partners to offer more than 10,000 programs to learners in urban, rural, remote, and northern communities. Over 95% of Canadians and 86% of Indigenous people live within 50km of one of our members.
In 2018, CICan launched an extensive consultation process that led to the adoption of a new vision, mission and value proposition, articulated in the Strategic Plan approved by the Board of Directors in 2019:
- Vision: Better futures for peoples and communities
- Mission: To strengthen the college and institute system
- Value Proposition: To be a force multiplier for Canadian colleges and institutes
“Strengthening the System: 2019-2024” is a call to shared action by the members of CICan, who recognize that by working together as a system, colleges and institutes can play a central role in ensuring that the economic, social and environmental goals of sustainable development are achieved, in Canada and around the world. The new strategic plan added an important new charge to the association’s traditional mandate. CICan’s members have asked the association to lead their collaborative commitment to Better Futures based on three strategic pillars of activities: Advocate, Build Capacity and Drive Knowledge. The narrative that CICan uses as the basis for all aspects of its work must therefore convey the ambitious vision its members have embraced for their system.
