As part of a group of organizations led by Hickling Corporation, Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) assisted the Government of Barbados to improve skills of personnel in the following areas: (i) General education- This involved teacher training, including special needs pedagogical training. A degree program was created for training of teachers in primary education. Other technical assistance included curriculum development, development of audio-visual learning technologies, and establishing a library and resource center; (ii) Technical and vocational education and training (TVET)- CICan worked with the TVET Council to develop a National Training Plan; and (iii) Labour market and employment- CICan assisted the National Employment Bureau (NEB) to become more efficient and effective in delivery of services by computerizing employment servicess and career guidance.
