This case study looks at the importance of helping students fast track their way to success through a 20 hour essential skills curriculum. The project led by Douglas College included an essential skills assessment along with a 10 week study program. Students were given a different essential skills based study strategy each week. They applied these to their daily coursework and assignments.
Post training testing revealed that almost all students moved positively within Level 2 and 75% moved from Level 2 to Level 3 or Level 2(3). This case study provides strategies for decision makers and tools for practitioners in order to be successful in implementing ES in college curriculum.
