Abstract: According to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, preparatory or pre-programs of instruction are defined as programs that provide students with foundational and/or specific skills required for admission to other college programs of instruction from which they will graduate. Preparatory programs have become a popular choice for students who are uncertain of their specific career goals and provide an opportunity to sample various skills areas. All Ontario colleges offer a variety of preparatory programs, with over twenty different preparatory programs available. Durham College began offering preparatory programs in 1999 and currently offers eight of these programs, with an enrolment of over 2,600 students over the last five years from 2008-09 to 2012-13.
