webinar: Developing a framework to promote and protect psychological health and safety of post-secondary students: the future workforce!
Sep 26th, 2018

Description

This webinar will be presented in English. A recording and PowerPoint presentation will be available on the Commission’s website in October 2018.

As the importance of addressing psychological health at work gains traction – through efforts like the National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace (the Standard) – it follows that protecting and promoting the mental wellness of tomorrow’s workforce is equally crucial.

Acquiring a post-secondary education can be exciting, transformative and demanding. Juggling financial, academic, family and personal demands, in addition to being away from home, family and friends for the first time are some of the new experiences that students share. There are a greater number of students coming to campuses with diagnosed mental health disorders and recent surveys indicate that 50% of students use campus mental health services with 10% being seen in urgent or crisis situations.

Reorienting the culture of post-secondary institutions to better equip students to thrive, both academically and personally, is integral to growing a resilient and productive workforce.

Join the MHCC and a panel of experts to shine the light on key issues faced by students, hear about some examples of leading practices that are having an impact, and opportunities to further shape Canada’s landscape to promote and protect psychological health and safety of post-secondary students.

Guest Panel:
Shifrah Gadamsetti, Canadian Alliance of Student Associations
Verity Turpin, MEC, CPA, AVP, Student Affairs, Dalhousie University
