Description

The National Executive Leadership Institute for Potential Vice-Presidents (VP NELI) targets individuals considering senior positions in academic, administration, finance, and student services departments, such as college and institute vice-presidents, directors of pedagogical services, directors, chief operating officers or bursars, as well as positions in fund development, contracts and business development. It may also interest current vice-presidents looking to move to a larger institutional context.

An intensive, week-long residential program, designed to enable participants to explore whether a vice-president’s position is one they wish to pursue in the future. Participants will be guided by a core group of VP NELI for Potential Vice-Presidents faculty with guest faculty providing leadership for particular segments. The skills, knowledge and experience of the participants themselves will be built upon in an interactive environment. The week will be structured to allow participants to examine a number of key areas, including:

  • the environmental context in which institutions currently exist
  • leadership – self-assessment and skills assessment
  • the key elements and tough challenges of being a vice-president
  • presidents’ expectations and the president/vice-president relationship
  • building a leadership team
  • governance and the appropriate roles of the vice-president
  • making the decision to apply
  • applying for the job

Note: The operational language will be English. Participants will also be signed up for a group electronic list in late May and will receive further information on the agenda, getting to know one another, arranging rides, etc.

Early registration is encouraged for a maximum of 25 participants. Participation is restricted to individuals from CICan member institutions and to a maximum of two (2) participants per college. Should space permit, an additional participant may be considered.
