Description
The Symposium will provide a working venue for participants to exchange on the important role of colleges and institutes in supporting the integration of immigrants into the Canadian labour market.
The symposium will feature an interactive mix of presentations and roundtable discussions on:
- Partnerships with private sector employers, notably small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
- Partnerships with municipalities including, integration efforts outside major metropolitan centres and in Francophone minority communities
- Update on the Canadian Immigrant Integration Program (CIIP)
- Essential support services for immigrant student success: advising, personal counseling and support, and financial assistance
- Occupation-specific language training (OSLT)
- Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) Services
- International students and pathways to permanent residency
- Integration of immigrants with trades qualifications
- Policy perspectives from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC)
Who should attend
Presidents/Chief Executive Officers; Vice-Presidents; Deans/Managers of Immigrant Education, International Centres and Student Access; other key staff members of institutions working with immigrants; and, umbrella organizations responsible for the integration of immigrants.
